"We had never received support before."

After the April floods devastated Mai Mahiu, Community Health Promoters worked tirelessly—traumatized, burned out, and overlooked. In October, we finally gave them a space to debrief. "We are so grateful," one said. "We feel seen."

Our Partners

Built on a decade of clinical expertise.

Athea Global was founded in 2021 as the non-profit arm of Hopewell Counseling—bringing professional mental health care to communities that cannot afford it.

We believe mental health care is not charity—it is justice. Today, we are a small, resilient team of therapists, coordinators, and advocates working across Kenya to break the silence around mental health.

The Hopewell Engine:

For every 10 therapy sessions purchased by corporate clients at Hopewell, Hopewell funds 1 free session through Athea for an underserved individual.

Meet the team.

Assy Nkanata

Projects/Operations Manager

"I coordinate our response, write the reports, and ensure we show up where we're needed most. Every challenge is a lesson."

Christine Wawira

Therapist

"Sitting with the CHPs in Mai Mahiu, hearing their stories—that's why I do this work. They had never been asked how they were coping."

Brenda Makena

Therapist

"We need to care for the caregivers. That is non-negotiable."

Let's work together.
